The House of Mouse has been extremely busy as of late, taking beloved animated classics like »Beauty and the Beast«, »Dumbo« and »The Jungle Book« and reissuing them with shiny new live-action makeovers. John Wick: Chapter 3 (in Dolby ATMOS) (John Wick: Kapitel 3)
USA, 2019 | Length: 132min | FSK: 18 | Director: Chad Stahelski Cast: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Laurence Fishburne

In this highly anticipated third installment of the acclaimed, adrenaline-fueled action thriller series, legendary super-assassin John Wick (Reeves; »The Matrix«) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin's guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world's most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn as unleashes mayhem and fury on the mobsters who have wronged him. Exploding with highly choreographed gun-fu and combat, the film does what a sequel should - it delivers plenty more of the non-stop action, tension and WTF moments that made its predecessors so much fun. Blisteringly violent, fast-paced, and utterly daft, this is a rip-roaring piece of entertainment with Reeves still the king of cool as the man in black.

The Dead Don't Die (Die Toten sterben nicht)
USA, 2019 | Length: 103min | FSK: 16 | Director: Jim Jarmusch Cast: Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, Selena Gomez

The dead don't die, and neither does the zombie genre, with Jim Jarmusch’s (»Down By Law«, »Stranger Than Paradise«, »Paterson«) fun hipster take on the format’s familiar tropes. A small town becomes notably smaller as the undead rise to chew upon a flavorsome cast that’s methodically ripped apart, feasted upon and otherwise pretty thoroughly decimated. The opening film of the Cannes Film Festival and a disarmingly intelligent riff on politics, parodies, and the futility of it all, this is a solid addition to the zom-com genre thanks to its unconventional filmmaker and A-list cast, the greatest zombie cast ever disassembled starring Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Tom Waits, and many more.

Tolkien
USA, 2019 | Length: 112min | FSK: 12 | Director: Dome Karukoski Cast: Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins, Colm Meaney

Based on the life of fantasy author linguist J.R.R. Tolkien - writer of such classic works as »The Lord of the Rings« and »The Hobbit«) - this well-paced and uncommonly thoughtful biographical drama explores the formative years of the orphaned author (Hoult; »Mad Max: Fury Road«) as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow writers and artists at school. Their brotherhood strengthens as they grow up and weather love and loss together, including Tolkien's tumultuous courtship of his beloved Edith, until the outbreak of the First World War which threatens to tear their fellowship apart. All of these experiences would later inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels. Imaginative, intense, and beautifully rendered, this is a worthy biopic with an impressive score, dramatic cinematography, and strong performances.
